Let me guess: Alisha's daddy will pull a few strings to get fictional-Thornton's funding revoked unless his daughter gets to go on the trip, as well. Which, ironically, will only prove Thornton's diagnosis of her, as correct.

So, thank you, I'm now going to have to come up with something better. Or do a total Michael Bay on the whole thing and cover the plot inconsistencies with action packed amazingness.
