I like the chapter, it was a nice little tidbit that fleshes out the Omega world. I kinda didn't like that condecending way Clair behaved in the chapter. Well she DID save lives, but at the same time it kinda felt like she derived some weird form of pleasure just from being so powerful and in-control of the situation...The fire affecting her perhaps? I don't know. Great chapter though!

Well, I feel it's important to keep in mind that Claire is coming directly off a rather emotional conversation with Stephanie. So from her perspective she's just now kind of recovering from that, getting kind of cheery again, and then this asshole comes along and almost kills some folks right in front of her. I think she's well within her rights to be condescening :P

 

That said, I've always written Claire as someone who enjoys the benefits of her size, even if there are some aspects of her biology she's not nearly as fond of.

In any case, thanks for reviewing, and overall I'm glad you liked the chapter :)

So many things to say and so many good comments already written...

 

Nvm that it's one of the best chapters in oneofthe best stories on this site; that single sentence at the end means - at least! - that we've been misunderstanding Claire's words so many times (including the clues in the previous chapter :)

I'll probably have to reread a lot of this...

Wow! That was truly brilliant! :) Even read in braille, which I must say, took quite some converting. Staid up for a very enjoyable sleepless night with not a hint of tiredness however alas, perhaps RSI of the trusty left and right index finger! haha :) I must admit, I wept like a baby at the end though. in a moved way though! Amazing story. Pretty close to tears at the end there, even though I could see where things were going. Oddly, I think Claire's description of her immortality saddened me even more than Stephanie's anguish. Claire is extremely wise for her age. She'll likely just get wiser as the centuries pass making any stories in the far future extremely challenging, i.e., it would be difficult for the reader to relate at all to such omniscience.

Even now, the revelation of immortality makes past chapters difficult to swallow. I really enjoyed the growing relationship between Melody and Corey. But now, it just saddens me. I wonder what Melody's thinking. Obviously their size difference would be a huge obstacle to any inkling of a romantic relationship. However the immortality would be even greater. Imagine them both at 80 years old and she still looks in her 20's. She wouldn't be able to remain faithful for that long. And if she did, would it be out of pity, or knowing she'd just move onto another relationshiop after his death? Probably none of the above, I like Melody too much to believe that, but it's just distrubing. If they did marry, she'd likely love Corey faithfully and be deeply depressed upon his passing, but it just feels wrong. I feel like the Omegas are hiding something. Well I feel that Kayla is hiding something, that she is playing god and granting power/immortality as she see's fit. Surely with all her power she could extend a Beta's life. I don't know, I just feel like there's a deep imbalance here, a fertile ground for tragedy, and Kayla's to blame.

Hope that didn't sound like criticism because I love your work, just wanted to share what I was thinking.

Hi Spooky, glad to have you back in here :)

Claire is definitely wise for her age, likely as a combination of her raising under Abby. That's an interesting note about her relateability as she continues to age and gather experience and knowledge. I'd like to think that, though she might become rather cold eventually, she'd still retain her overall kindness.

Yup. There's a reason Melody was keen to jumpstart things with Corey after his injuries, and this is pretty much why. "Probably none of the above" is also probably correct :).

Your thoughts on Kayla are interesting, though I do want to add some info that's non-spoilery. Lifespans are a good deal longer in the time this take place in, averaging somewhere between 150-180 years old. Aging in general has also become a much more graceful process. All of that thanks to Omega technology in medicine and health. It's just that even a doubled lifespan compared to present-day is just another drop in the bucket of an Omega's life. And in regards to that, some things about the Omegas may be due more to their innate biology than anything Kayla personally doles out.

A very moving chapter.  I could feel Stephanie's pain the whole build up. 

 

And I'm interested to know how Naomi's doing even though we might not find out for a long while.  The two of them are what has made this story interesting.  Over the long time between updates I've completely forgotten about the other girl.

And I'm glad to see you back, sketch! As Kazuma and some others can likely attest to, I've been going all "man, where's sketch been? :(" for several updates in a row. Glad to see you're still reading, and it's great to seea review from you again.

Sadly it probably will be a while before we see Naomi again thanks to my schedule. The current plan is to handle this upcoming party, then tie things off with Naomi's activities. It's just a matter of having the time to carry them out.

Not only nothing can stop them from doing whatever they want but it is strongly implied, in this story and in others, that they DO anything they want.

They just appeared one day, normal Alphas touched by the "Fire" (whatever it is) and suddenly they are huge all powerful beings. It's implied they do whatever they want (which is protecting Betas) without any kind of consent or discussion with Alphas governments. They simply impose their will on Alphas. Which is why most elected Alphas officials are anti-Omegas. But they don't have the means to fight back.

I'm wondering if there was a point in the past when Alphas tried to kill the Omegas with their military - and how that went. As it is, Omegas could just as well be an alien occupying force on Earth.

Am sorry to say, that am not liking how over powered you are making the omegas, they seem to be running around with nothing to stop them from focing their will on everyone.

They can do all these things and now they can't die, is b.s to me. I was never a fan of the omegas as most of them we seen are by foce and fear are trying to foce Alphas to change. Yeah the Alphas need to change how they see betas but the omegas are doing no better by focing their wills on Alphas.

If you said the omegas live to around 300 years would make them a little less over powered not this not dieing b.s that had to be thrown on everything else they can do.
