Sylisia must be an undercover racist bitch who played Maia for a fool and was working for her government the entire time (or something like that). I can't see any other reason for Maia to treat her "friend" so cruelly. If my hunch is correct, then any sympathy I had for Sylisia earlier in this story is gone completely.

Hmmm... something like that. But her motives are far more basic. You'll see in the next two or three chapters. ;)
