I have a feeling the same being or beings responsible for Alex's shrinking are involved in Evan's. Perhaps they did it as a sort of punishment, so that Evan would change his ways and learn to be a better person.

It's an interesting idea, but I'd actually planned to just make it a side-effect of Alex touching him.
