To be honest, I’m impressed that he hasn’t just accepted that they’re going to die. Kiri’s influence may cause it, but this chapter really drove home how some of them don’t really mind hurting him just because they can. I’m curious to know how much of this is Kiri controlling them and how much is her drawing out their deeper ugliness. That would explain why she’s only able to sway half of the party.

And while I am hoping for a happy ending for the protagonist, part of me wouldn’t mind if he had to endure more pixie abuse and finger flicks.

Kiri's agent has something much more creative in store for them than mere death.  The truth is, Kiri hasn't had to directly influence anyone yet, all she's had to do is give minor suggestions.  When she finally does have to exert direct influence on someone, I hope it'll be clear.
