I suppose I’ve always been a bit of a dreamer. I’ll start thinking about something random and then before I know I’ve extrapolated a dozen other things so far-fetched that they can hardly be considered normal. Like right now for instance. Watching my girlfriend Ryan struggle to lift her book laden backpack,  couldn’t help but wonder.

What if she were strong enough to lift that bag easily?

I was about to step forward to help when suddenly she let out a petit “Hup!” and swung the backpack over her shoulder as though it were filled with nothing but air. I paused, in the awkward position of leaning part way down to where the bag used to sit on the floor. Ryan looked down at me puzzled.

“You stretching or something babe?”

“I was gonna help you with your bag?” I responded, almost as if I were asking her. She just chuckled lightly.

“What for? It’s not like it's heavy or anything.” She emphasized this by shrugging her shoulder to hike the bag even higher on her back. Despite her statement I could clearly see the straps straining to hold up the many heavy books contained within. “Get your stuff we’re gonna be late for class.” She pointed down at my own bag, slightly larger and likely heavier than her own.

“Yeah….sure….” I reached down for my bag. I couldn’t help but notice that I was completely unable to make my bag seem as light as she did hers.

What if it were so heavy I couldn’t carry it and needed her help?

No sooner had the thought passed through my head than did my back crash to the floor like an anchor. I blinked, looking down at it, and tried to lift it again. Nothing. The straps simply strained against the stubbornly immobile pack.

“Let me get that babe!” Ryan slipped her slender arms through the straps and lifted the bag as easily as she had her own. She was now wearing both backpacks side by side by a single strap. She smiled up at me as if nothing was out of the ordinary. “ Don’t know what I was thinking, expecting you to carry it on your own. Ready to go?” Some slow part of my brain still in charge of my voice tried to argue.

“I can….I can carry my own bag….” Ryan just raised an eyebrow.

“We’ve been over this silly, you don’t have to be embarrassed just ‘cause I’m so much stronger than you.  Besides, I don’t want you to hurt yourself! I love you too much!” As she said this she stood on her tiptoes to kiss me.

What if she was tall enough to kiss me flatfooted?

I watched in awe as Ryan’s face rose to meet mine. With our lips locked I could feel her embrace growing around me. In seconds she went from 5 foot nothing to matching me at 5’10. Once we parted and were looking each other in the eyes I finally realized what was happening but it was too late to go back.

“Come on, let’s skedaddle!” Ryan turned on her heels and trotted away. I followed, knowing that with my imagination I was in for a ride. I didn’t have to wait long.

As we walked I noticed other couples on campus making their ways to and from classes. Another thought passed through my mind.

What if all girls were as tall and strong as Ryan?

The effect was immediate, though not instantaneous. Instead things seemed to shift around me. Girls started to stretch taller, quite a bit taller than I thought they would. Before long almost all the girls stood several inches taller than any boy. After some brief puzzling I realized that this was likely because the average height of women had been increased to remain constant with Ryan’s height. She was 4 inches below average before so now the new average was somewhere around 6’2. This certainly seemed to be the case as we passed on our mutual friends, Kirstin.

Kirstin was from Sweden and had always been tall. She used to be 6’1, now she must have been approaching 6’11.

“Hey Kirsten! How was lab?” Ryan greeted the skyscraper of a girl as always, I suppose from her perspective nothing’s changed. It wasn’t quite the same for me. I was used to looking up at Kirsten, up at her eyes not up at her collarbone.

“Ah, Ryan Thomas! Good afternoon! Heading to calculus?” Kirstens smooth, angular face beamed down at the two of us.

“Yup! How about you? Hitting the gym?” Ryan responded.

“Sure am, I’m close to setting a new personal best on squats!” This piqued my interest.

“Hey Kirsten,” I tried to sound casual but that’s hard when standing in front of a gorgeous woman so tall that she makes you look like a child. “Just out of curiosity, what is your personal best?” Both girls looked at me, they didn’t seem weirded so that was a good sign.

“For squats? I think….500Kg. A little over 1100 pounds for you Americans.” She giggled lightly. I was stunned. I looked at Ryan, hoping she was as impressed as I was. She was, but not for the same reason.

“You go girl! I still haven’t broken 650lbs but I’m getting close!” She raised her fist to meet Kirsten’s. The two girls looked over at me, noticing my shocked expression. “Ah, you’ll have to forgive Tom. He seems to have forgotten that guys just aren’t as strong as girls.”

“Are you feeling alright Thomas?” Kirsten bent at her waist and placed her large, soft hand on my forehead. “Next thing you’ll be saying that you’ve forgotten that girls are taller than boys as well!”

What if all girls were as tall as Kirsten is now?

Once again the world shifted around me. Kirsten’s head tilted more and more to keep looking me in the eye. I watched as her breasts rose higher and higher, until they completely cleared the top of my head. Her hand expanded over my forehead until her whole palm could’ve covered my face. She giggled cutely before standing upright. Towering wasn’t the right word. It wasn’t strong enough. She smiled sweetly before turning to address Ryan. “Well I shouldn’t keep you, class starts in only a few minutes if I remember correctly!” I turned to look at Ryan as well. She’d also grown. Not as much as Kirsten but where before she was the same height as I was, now she was a full head taller. My once petite girlfriend and I had completely swapped places!

“Oh shit you’re right! Come on babe!” Ryan grabbed me by the wrist and began running. I felt like I was being pulled by a freight train, I couldn’t have stopped her if I wanted to. “Good luck at the gym Kirsten!” Ryan yelled back at our friend. Man she was fast, her long legs completely outpaced my hurried steps. I was tripping over my feet trying to keep up. “We really are gonna be late babe, let me carry you.”

“Wha-” Was all I managed to say before Ryan scooped my up in a bridal carry and took off. With the wind whipping me in the face all I could do was look up at my girlfriends face. She was perfectly calm and steady, showing no effort in carrying both our bags and myself at breakneck speeds. As we approached the Math building and headed to our room I noticed that everything seemed larger. The doorways, windows, even the chairs. It was only natural I suppose, with the average women being 6’11 now.

We just barely made it in time. Ryan gently deposited me in a large chair next to her own. I looked around and saw a room filled with Amazon women, dwarfing their male counterparts. I recognized Gabby, a previously tiny girl who was only 4’9. Now a lanky woman of 6’4 she was taller than even her football star boyfriend and undoubtedly far stronger. I decided to investigate this.

“Hey Ryan, does Gabby’s boyfriend still play quarterback?”

“Huh? No he doesn’t even play football, why are you asking?” I was just trying to start a conversation on sports so I could ask some more direct questions, this was not the response I had been expecting.

“What? Why not?”

“Uh, duh ‘cause he’s a guy? He’d get demolished. The smallest girl on the freshman team outweighs him by like 300 pounds. Not to mention even a 6 year old can run circles around the fastest male sprinter. Is this a joke? You’re really acting weird today.” It was hard to imagine a freshman outweighing the man I was thinking of, 6’2 250 pounds of muscle. But I guess it made sense given the world we lived in now. I just had to focus on minimizing any more changes. This would prove fruitless.

As the calc lecture lagged on I was having trouble focusing. Ryan wasn’t fairing much better. Math had never been her forte and this class in particular had always given her trouble. Sometimes I wished at least one of us was smart enough to help the other.

What if Ryan were smart enough to tutor me in my classes?

The thought passed in and out of my head without me even noticing. It was Ryan, tapping my shoulder that woke me from my daydreams.

“Babe, need some help? You’ve made a bunch of mistakes on your sheet. Here let me show you.” Dammit I’ve done it again. Though I suppose this isn’t all that bad. At least now I have a chance of passing this class. Ryan really was smarter too. She breezed through the problems on the worksheet and caught my mistakes almost before I did.

What if all girls were this smart

I tried to catch that thought as it whizzed past my mind. It was dangerous, the way it was phrased. I barely had time to think about the repercussions before the whole room flashed, forcing me to blink. When I opened my eyes at first it seemed like nothing had changed. I breathed a sigh of relief and turned to face Ryan. Only, it wasn’t Ryan. Sitting next me was a strange girl who, aside from her height, looked to be no older than 14.

“Do you understand now? Try doing the next one yourself.” The strange girl said. I could only stutter out a meger response.

“Y-yeah, thanks….”

“No problem, I like helping little guys like you!” She reached over and ruffled my hair. Before turning back to her own work.

I spent the next half hour trying to acclimate to my new surroundings and avoiding a panic attack. I learned that the girl next to me was called Lisa, she and most of the other girls in the room were 14 and taking calculus as a 1000 level prerequisite for a more advanced class. While the girls in the room weren’t much shorter than before, Lisa was at least 7 foot. I ended up relying on her help for the rest of the class. Thankfully it ended quickly.

As I found my way out of the enlarged building I saw Ryan waiting at the exit. I was so relieved that when I ran up to hug her I momentarily forgot the changes I’d made.

“I missed you! Where’d you go?” Ryan was still small enough for me to hug semi-normally but it was still strange having to raise my head over her shoulders.

“Aw, I missed you too! But what do you mean? I was in my theoretical physics lab like always. I haven’t taken calc in years.”

“Right, sorry I don’t know what I was saying. Let’s go home” I slipped my fingers between hers and looked up at her with what I hoped was a normal happy face.

“Sure thing babe!”

As we walked I got a closer look at the world I’d created. Everything seemed….cleaner. I noticed that most of the girls walking around, aside from being nearly 7 feet tall, were all much younger. No doubt a result of their increased intelligence allowing them to enter college at a much younger age than boys. But there were also many more girls than boys. Walking through the quad there must have been 50 or more girls hanging out, chatting or walking to class but I counted fewer than a dozen boys doing the same.

“Sure are a lot of girls at this school, huh.” I mentioned offhandedly.

“Well yeah that’s only normal. Most colleges don’t even accept men with less than a 4.0 GPA. If anything I’d say there’s a lot of boys here.” This confused me.

“I don’t have a 4.0….”

“Yeah well you’re a special case.” Ryan stated matter of factly.

“Why?”

“You don’t remember? You’re here on a special scholarship ‘cause I vouched for you. You study for 2 years while I get my degree and then we graduate together. It’s a way for men to get a bit of higher education without wasting resources on them.”

“You talk like men are stupid or something, we’re not that dumb….” Ryan sighed and looked down at me apologetically.

“No you’re not dumb, but compared to women you’re….outmatched. I mean the highest a man’s ever gotten on an IQ test is, what 200? Most girls test that high by 8 years old. Hell I’m at like 450 something.”

“Holy shit….” I whispered under my breath. I’d really twisted reality into something wild. And I still didn’t know how or why. I shouldn’t have thought that.

What if everything I’ve changed today was multiplied?

This change was big. Once again the whole world flashed. When I opened my eyes I was no longer walking home with Ryan. Instead I found myself standing in what looked like a normal living room. I looked around frantically searching for Ryan or anything familiar. When I found the front door I opened it and my jaw dropped.

The “house” I was in was itself surrounded by a glass wall that separated it’s small lawn from a vast interior room. I barely had time to take in my surroundings when a shadow fell over my head. I looked up to see the giant grinning face of my girlfriend.

“Hey little guy! Awake from your nappy?” her voice boomed around me. I had no idea how big she was but she must have been approaching 50 feet given my perspective. “Wanna come out for a bit?” She stood back and reached into what I now saw was a terrarium with a gigantic hand.

“Ryan wait I-”

“Oh sush-sh-sh-sh, it’s okay. Just c'mere.” Her fingers wrapped around my body and lifted me free from my confines. As she cleared the glass she held me close to her breast and gently stroked my back. “There, that’s better right?”

“Ryan what’s-”

“That’s right I’m Ryan! Oooh you’re just so smart!” She lifted me to her lips and planted a wet kiss on my face. “Look at my little guy, using big girl words!” I gave up trying to speak. It was clear that either Ryan couldn’t fully understand me or perhaps was just too advanced to care. Somehow I’d turned myself into her pet rather than her boyfriend. No doubt this was the fate of all men around the world. This was gonna take some getting used to.

But what if….
