Outage

As i'm sure many of you noticed we had an outage for a few days. I apologize for the downtime. Some people thought it would be fun to continually overload the database to bring down the site.

Everything should be back to normal

Asukafan2001. These outages really scare us. If we can help to secure the future of this website with Patreon or anything I’d gladly throw in a little for server costs and maintenance.

I offered to help with GiantessWorld as soon as I noticed the website was down: I have experience in web developing, so I could totally help you manage the site, fix all the broken features you've got here and rewrite the CSS entirely. I could create a highly customizable skin that would be our own, instead of having to rely on external ones. I could optimize the website for mobile, and make it look much more modern and user-friendly while still keeping its layout simple.

But... you've been ignoring all my attempts to reach out to you so far.

If this were a personal website, I wouldn't dare butt in. But this has become the main hub for all the writers in the macro/micro community (and that's not a surprise, seeing how this site has been around for almost two decades), and it saddens me to see it's been left in such a state of disarray—to the point the site could just go down and we, the users, don't get an official communication or message or whatever from the admins or the owner until almost three days have passed.

That's the point. It's not a matter of "It took three days to fix the site", because depending on the complexity of the issue even one month might be acceptable. No, the point is that it took three days to even tell the userbase that the owner was trying to get the database to work again.

Asukafan, I really love this website because my love for macro/micro is part of who I am, and almost defines who I am. There's nothing that would make me happier to make this website better for everyone—and you know this "everyone" comprises of tens of thousands of people from around the globe, it's not just you and me. But if you insist on working alone even if you don't even have the time to check on your emails or on your notes on dA, or to even write a small message or status update wherever you want to warn us about the outage... then this website is destined to remain like this forever.

Therefore, I'll ask once again (hoping to get a reply this time): can I help you with GiantessWorld?

- LabbaArt on July 07 2020 4:55 PM

I second the call for some site updates. We need https security at the very least.

Also, it would be nice to be able to sort stories by number of stars. Right now it's hard to dig around for quality stories with the crude search tools.

Cheers!

I would happily contribute to some kind of fund to keep this site up and running. It would be a massive shame if this database of everyone's efforts and collaborations were to crash and never recover.

I agree with LabbaArt. I would love for you to have a full staff and make the site better for all Giantess lovers. I love Giantess and shrink stories. The Fascination for being shrunk and held captive by Giant Women and sometimes Giant Couples fascinate me.

I have had that fetish since I was a kid. Watching Honey I shrunk the kids. And this is the only great site that me and fellow giantess fetish can come and not be judged by others for being freaks.

And draw and collect images. And read great stories. To see it gone for three days over the holiday weekend was worrysome for me and made me depressed. This was the site I could always go too and I would love it was handled more carefully and with care. Not saying that you don't care for the site. But obviously you need help.

And you  have others who are willing to step in and help you run it and even create new desktops for us or skins to use. Even make it easier to search for stories. Please thank about this. You don't even have any social media in letting us know if the site would be up or not. So we were going on blind faith. Please get better at doing this site. I love it so much and would hate to see it leave with out no warning or word.

Hello Asukafan2001, this is rustingman.

I am still available to help out with the site. I have tried contacting you numerous times through email to your Yahoo email and through notes on DeviantArt to help improve the site and make significant changes, but you stopped responding to all my communications. I even have a beta web application that has been collecting dust because you haven't responded to any of my communication. I would love to actually implement this and not have this project go nowhere.

My email has changed. You can contact me at fullofjunkmail@protonmail.com. Please, contact me, so I can do something with this web application.

If there is anything we can do to help let us know. I noticed mobile is acting weird.

- zephilia on July 08 2020 7:13 AM

I'd also be open to contributing funds to the site.

The mailing system has been down since early January, and since the site has no social media presence it was a fair assumption everything was gone.  I started a different place to host my work online, and I doubt I'm the only author who did.

Please accept help from the people who're offering it.  This site looks like a relic from Web 1.0 and some functions are either severely degraded or plain don't work.  I want to keep using it since it's a valuable hub, but if the website can seemingly disappear with no notice it's difficult to do that with the confidence my work will still be accessible.

I agree with what others have been saying. And if funds and news are a problem, it'd be great to have a Patreon and social media to keep this site updated and running for all us giantess fans. People really care for this site and they and I will try our best to help out!

Asuka,

Sent you a message, but not sure if website mail is working. I have a ton of hosting and backup resources at my disposal, and am willing to donate my tech/support to help make this site more robust.

I've talked to a lot of other users this past week since the outage, and we'd like to financially supprt you by supporting a patreon or something alike for the website! Is there a chance you could add me on Discord, just so there is a possibility for communication in the future if the site is taken down again? Discord: Shaman#3899

In any case, thanks to everyone who managed to fix the problem!

Just a heads up, someone changed the site title to "Gay faggot world!" and included a wry comment about black dicks. I got a pic of it if you need proof, but somebody is still messing with the site.

- StarShot on July 10 2020 11:01 AM
Yeah I noticed that too, now I know it's a troll screwing around with the system.
- Flagpole_Sitta97 on July 10 2020 6:05 PM

Unless it's treated like Paypal where no mention or link to this website is public, I would strongly discourage the use of Patreon.

They may have started out as a means for creators of adult fiction to maintain a tip jar, but due to pressure from Paypal and Mastercard, they're now mired in dysfunctional moral guidelines regarding what you can say and what you can create even off-site. Any use of Patreon or its ilk should be done with the mindset that every month, there's a chance they'll freeze your account and prevent you from receiving your money unless you comply with their logically and ethically bankrupt guidelines. Giantessworld has existed for a long time, and there's a lot of content that violates Patreon's thoughtless guidelines, and I would prefer cutting ties with Patreon than removing any fiction or comments they deem contentious.

- Petite Soeur on July 11 2020 1:52 AM

A few things has to be done:

1. make a twitter account for this site, where you write status updates

2. make a patreon or other donation platform, if you need help or money for the servers to tun properly

3. trust a few admins to run/administrate the site and maybe eben someone updating the functions of this site, which are way too limiteed, like a good search function for example

- ILike on July 12 2020 3:30 PM

If there's a silver lining to all this, it's now clear how much this site means to so many people, and just how many people are willing to provide support to keep it going.

But it's also clear the site needs substantial work. It would be nice to see a concerted, organized effort to prioritize the needs of this site and find a path to meet them. We've got a great opportunity here! Very encouraging to see the outpouring of support.
