That was dark, even by the standards of most of your dark and violent stories. 

 

I wonder if Ariel realizes she probably doomed herself to hell. Since heaven was real in this setting. 

 

I also wonder how mortal magic can deny people heaven .

The mandate on this one from the commissioner was to go very dark. The magic's a bit of a "eh, who knows" situation in this story.
