So, the little guy was overcompensating, too? By being too submissive out of the mistaken belief that he'd been too controlling with Tiffany?

Yes, you've absolutely nailed it. In his past relationship with Tiff, Andy was always the "fix-it" man, struggling to allow her to be her own autonomous person.
With Olivia, that trauma manifests in the worst possible way. He ignores the red flags because he's drawn to the familiar echo of Tiff, desperate to reclaim the connection he lost. He falls squarely into an anxious attachment style, driven by a deep-seated fear of not being useful and a core belief that he is, and never will be, "enough."
Thank you for seeing it so clearly. It's the tragic engine of his entire character arc.
