I feel some stuff happened way too fast and I still feel bad about the JinxReika relationship. Like Jin has absolutely no card to play at all, so to speak. He'll grow old and she won't and sooner or later she'll return to her past cold and distant self. It's a bit bitter to me.
It is still a very good story, I may read the prequel and the sequel still !

Being able to make jokes in this situation? Jin is stronger than I keep giving him credit for. It is obviously not over but that's still impressive considering his powerlesness compared to those two giantesses.
Also, it'll be funny to see if Reika even agrees to let him out of her sight now.

In all seriousness, I realize there are lot things make little sense in the Resonance story and could be improved. The prequel and sequel have done it much better in that regard. Which is why I am working on the rewrite of Resonance!

Jin is a strange fellow, both strong and weak. Sometimes his reactions surprise me, but they never break the immersion, I can see someone like him existing.
He also seems to be more important than I gave him credit for initially. He seems to hold a key to Tokyo and the real world, or this chapter would be strange.
And Mayume is indeed the deadliest of the three Great Demons to step into the Real World, in a way. Reika's an unstoppable force of nature, but reconnecting with a place she knew would probably force her to restrain herself. Kaida's a brute that could be confronted.
Mayume is cunning and that can be deadly.

Welcome to the main plot! Yes Jin is pretty much the MacGuffin of the story, can't have our MC be completely useless for the entire series!
Mayume was infinitely more interesting than Kaida for the first two stories but Kaida would have her time to shine in the Sequel :^)

The last few chapters have been quite intruiguing !
What does Reika want, for instance ? She seems awfully detached even from Jin, and yet a certain connection remains.
The Human and Demons factions also seem extremely interesting, with a balance of power quite precarious. It would be hardly surprising to see it fall down hard. Tje question being, does Reika need to be slain or not. And if she must die, how do one defeat a godlike being like her ?

I'm still surprised at her killing the kings and scholars and all even as "early" as her first twenty years.
Also, she seems to not see Jin as a human, but he hasn't displayed anything not human so far, so I'm afraid to see what'll happen when she'll associate him with them. Will friendship/affection/love win over aloofness ? Who can tell ?
Author's Response: Thanks for the reviews! There is a prequel dedicated to the early days of Reika's arrival on this land explains exactly what you were asking but it is highly recommended to read after finishing Resonance.
Jin and Reika's relationship definitely went through highs and lows but what I can say is that at least the ending of Resonance is rather wholesome? Keep reading this story gets better! :^)

The ending hit me harder than I expected. When Resonance ended, I felt like I had more questions than answers—but the ending of the sequel? Wow. It was brilliantly written, and I can’t stop thinking about Jin’s choice.
For me, I believe Jin would rather go through everything again than live with Reika in a "normal" world, knowing what she truly is but never being able to tell her. Carrying that secret, that weight—I don’t think someone as honest and compassionate as Jin could do it. It’s simply not in his nature.
And who knows? You never actually said whether choosing differently would always lead to the same outcome. That thought lingers with me.
A perfect ending to an unforgettable story.

I just want to say—Resonance and its sequel are hands down the best stories of this kind I’ve ever read. What started as just another fan story on a fetish site quickly turned into something far beyond my expectations. It completely pulled me in, way more than I ever thought possible. And by the time I reached the end, I felt that familiar sting of anxiety—the kind you get when you finish a truly great book, knowing it’s over, yet not wanting it to be.
The characters were phenomenal, but Reika—Reika was something else entirely. From the very first moments, I was hooked. There were so many moments that hit me hard, but even just the beginning was enough to completely immerse me in this world.
One of the things that surprised me most was this weird sense of synchronicity I felt with your writing. There were times when I could guess where the next chapter was going—not because it was predictable, but because it felt like we were thinking in the same way. And the strangest part? When I was developing my own story, I unknowingly incorporated some concepts that later appeared in the sequel—before I had even read it. That was a surreal experience.
And then there was that one moment—when Reika was asked, “When does a person truly die?” I knew the answer before it was spoken: When they are forgotten. That single line hit me harder than I can describe.
This isn’t just a good story. It’s one that lingers, one that stays with you long after you've finished reading. A masterpiece in its own right.
I've finally decided to try writing my own story. After years of just thinking about it, I’m actively working on it now. But I don’t want something shallow—I want a deep, well-crafted world, which is why it’s taking time. I've already rewritten parts of it a few times, trying to get it right.
As I mentioned, Resonance really inspired me. Some ideas and themes resonated with me so much that I know I'll use similar concepts—but in my own way, at different times, and with a different approach.
I want to be clear: I’m not trying to make a clone of your story.
I just hope you won’t mind using some of them :) .

Thanks for the kind words. It is true that the story initially started out as just a little something to explore my kinks but as it goes on I realize that I am getting attached the story and the characters a lot more than the erotic part.
I think part of Reika's charm and allure is that she fit into this 'dark protector' Trope. It is not an official term but I see it as someone that is cruel, dangerous and feared by everyone yet shows an incredible amount of tenderness and very gentle towards the MC. I could point some similarities to characters in modern media like Lanfear in the Wheel of time or Teresa from Claymore, but for Reika this factor is cranked up by 200%. So if this archtype of a character is something that fits a person's cup of tea then it would really resonate with the person.
And best luck to your story and never be afraid to reference or use something from mine! I think every different type of art creation is based on someone else's previous works - you could never simply imagine things out of nothing. My story also took a variety of inspirations from many different medias I consume, it would actually be quite funny if I had to make a huge list for every reference! I believe the end result is what matters, so if it came out nicely as a story by all means:)

Hey Thousands,
I added a couple lines in Ch113 so it is a bit more clear that the current omnipotent Reika has sent Jin back in time to before everything happened and sitting in front of him is a Reika that has not been through the event of Resonance. Should he feel that the journey was worth and rewarding, he could choose to experience it all over again by going to the shrine with Reika. Alternatively he could live a simple life with this Reika without worrying all the wars, demons and gods. So I guess Reika is not 'normal again' the Reika we know is still the omnipotent goddess of life and death now in another dimension. Jin's ending is inspired by 'eternal sunshine of the spotless mind' where the protagonists (lovers) were able to fall in love all over again after they lost the memories of each other and I think there is beauty in this kind of melencholia.
My process is kinda unorthodox, I would usually figure out some cool scene first and then try to work my story towards that although a lot of times they were taken or largely inspired by other medias I consume. For example the soul river/Reika's ascension scene is take right out of the Third Impact from Neo Genesis Evangelion.
As for characters, Reika has been too much a Mary Sue in the previous 2 stories so she needed to get humbled quite a bit in this one so the ending could feel a bit more rewarding. As for the side characters and the world especially the demon realm, they really could've have used more chapters to develop them but then we would be talking about a story in a completely different scale.
As for the future of this series, I feel like this is a definitive ending. As for any prequels following Relinquence, I was told one of the biggest taboo for light novels is to change protagonist since you want the readers to build more possessive relationship with your characters, so now I feel the same way too, having Arata or anyone else with Reika at this point is just going to be a turn off. The most likely scenario is that I go back and rewrite Resonance now that I think I am a bit better with stories and pacing. Or maybe a spinoff if I find a really good angle.
