I know how you feel when it comes to mental health and writing erotic stories. I tend to find myself wondering why I'm wasting my time on this stuff when I could be doing something way more productive, something that actually serves to better my life. Especially when feedback can be so scarce at times, it's not like it's necessary to validate your own work but it's nice to have y'know.

I used to be all about smut when it came to stories on this site, but I've come to really appreciate these more human takes on a shrinking situation. Stories that delve into a complicated relationship between characters and how they're affected by some convenient size magic lol.

As for the actual story. It's fantastic. Jeremy's childhood was horrible to read about and Elyse's reaction was intriguing. I really loved how heart-warming their interaction became. I'm a bit of a sucker for little cute moments in stories, so I particularly liked their brief back and forth over not being able to swim and the fact Jeremy didn't know what a sweet potato was.

The build up of our characters and their budding relationship is described realistically and was honestly pretty moving at times. You're a really talented writer who can paint a vivid picture and this stories proves that.

It sounds like you've come to terms with this all though and I completely agree. Writing these stories is a fun outlet and I justify it to myself by saying I'm 'practicing' for my non-erotic writing.

I'm rambling now though in an attempt to procrastinate uni assignments so I'll end with this. Thanks for reuploading this, I missed it the first time and I'm so glad I got to experience it now.

Author's Response:

You've got no idea how much that praise means to me. I'm totally humbled. As far as seeing this writing as practice, I completely agree. It's also the ease of getting a piece out to a specific demographic through this site while having access to immediate feedback, as there seems to be greater demand for well-written stuff in smaller communities.

I'm really glad you appreciated the small bits of character details. I'd definitely love to experiment more with heavily character oriented stories. Who's to say that one of the stories you write here won't evolve into the next bestseller? You know 50 shades of gray was a Twilight fanfic before the names were changed and it was published on its' own? You never know what could happen.

I'm glad you decided to repost your story, I haven't gotten to read it all yet. I think I posted some of my thoughts on it elsewhere. Are you slumming it here? I've had similar thoughts on my own work. I got over it largely by reading about some of the stuff various artists and authors got up to that they're not famous for, maybe everyone here should be writing the next great English novel instead of writing smut, but if anyone here IS going to write something like that it would be impossible to separate it from the crazy shit they wrote for niche audiences. I hope you get what you're looking for from your writing, you've got a good grasp on human emotions and empathy which would serve you well if you decide to move into another genre.

Author's Response:

Thank you, and I definitely agree. Great writers that are known for only a handful of works were pumping out hundreds of articles and short stories with middling to little critical success. Writing anything is good, and more power to you if you can cater to a particular interest or community with it as well. Publishing stories here is infinitely better than sitting on the spare scraps of ideas littering my Google drive at the moment.

And "slumming it" implies that there is some sort of bourgeoise status quo I am accustomed to, some lobby or plaza awaiting my grand appearance, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I'm an aspirational nobody just like everyone else.
