You have now explained how a friend got to be in charge of dispensing punishemnt.  I think something similar happened with Claire in the other story.  I'm still surprised that High Command doens't see it as a conflict of interest and allows this to happen.  This is going to become ammunition for the anti-Omega and Beta faction of Alphas.  At the very least if Alex is innocent, then they'll demand a review of how Alphas are arrested, convicted and punished.  Like, I don't know, a trial.  A chance to confront your accuser and defend yourself.  The evidence as of now appears damning, but if a team of Alpha experts and lawyers had been allowed to investigate, they might have discovered the truth and saved Alex from the torture she's enduing.

Author's Response:

In this case, High Command just asked that Hart select an enforcer; it may have been a conflict of interest, though like in the case of Claire in Consequences, Bridget is considered safe enough and in control of the situation to handle it. As for Alphas demanding reviews of the justice system, I'd be very surprised if there aren't already groups doing that. Remember, this is a dystopian narrative; the Omega's justice system is by no means being defended by the story as perfect here.  It just is what it is.  Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Looks like Bridget is only interested in the truth that she wants to hear, and therein lies the problem with torture; The victim will more than gladly tell you what you want to hear, even if it isn't the truth.

"A Beta wouldn’t have been able to do that"

Or.. the walkway is elevated.

Author's Response:

I wouldn't necessarily say it's the truth she wants to hear; it's worth noting that Beta walkways are higher up than knee height for an Alpha, which is where the girl fell from. Thanks for reviewing.

Great stuff as always.

Still going with booze.

Really enjoying the story so far, and I'm even more glad to hear through the comments that the story is only going to be around 12 chapters long--so many stories, on this site or otherwise, fall into that trap of being endless in length.  Something like this, tightly focused on about two characters, is definitely a work best suited to a length of around that size.

Author's Response:

Thanks! The story really is meant to zero in on two characters (and arguably a third later on), so the length seemed more appropriate.

Hmmm, that is very damming evidence against Alexandra...I'm still hoping she is innocent though, but I'm very curious how she is innocent.

Author's Response:

Hehe. All I can say is there's definitely more than meets the eye here.

Damn if Alexandra didn't do this and when Bridget finds out how will she cope? But this all rides on the beta in the coma, if she can corroborate the other betas testimonials. Or will she have a completely different story from theirs and even Alexandra's for that matter. Only time will tell and I can't wait. This story is turning out to be a real tear jerker. Well done.

PS on the off shoot Alexandra is innocent, what kind of reparations will High Command offer her?(or maybe they could somehow pin this on Bridget, make her the scapegoat)

Author's Response:

Thanks for reading/reviewing! I don't want to spoil anything, but there will be answers to all of that by the end.

Damn. I don't really have too much to say about this one but it was a good chapter!

Author's Response:

Thanks!

You always did have a knack for ill relationships, I'll give you that.  Things are off to a pretty rough start,  there hasn't been a chink in the armor of the Omega's side of this case yet. I do agree that the victim's interview was botched. Hopefully this will end with a least a little happiness. Do you mind if I ask how far you've planned things out, if you haven't mentioned it already?

Author's Response:

Thanks for reviewing! I actually have the story planned out to the end in fairly specific detail. It'll be just over 12 chapters total.

Four and a half missing minutes of footage, this is all circumstanstial evidence! Plus the name was put into their mouths by the interviewer, I call bullshit!

Oh Bridget, you and Alexandra will have no friendship to speak of. I can't sympathise with her because while she will be mentally tortured, her Alpha will be a physical and psychological wreck unlike you!

Author's Response:

Hehe. Well, to be fair, it's not like a name would've been given to them mid-attack; the name was provided based on the fact that Lexi was the only other person in the alley during the window of the event. It is definitely fair to say that Lexi's still getting the short straw here despite Bridget's woe, though.

It's late, I'm exhausted, but I made an account just to toss in a review--love the story, it's probably the only one in recent memory that made me want to genuinely read it, rather than try to skip around and find the naughty bits.

Excellent blend of both story and the fetishy stuff, and I find myself eagerly waiting to see what happens next--the setup is very intriguing from a psychological standpoint, and I think my most anticipated point might be if/when Bridget finds out Alex is innocent, how she's done so much damage over nothing...and how she reacts, maybe trying (maybe failing) to repair the relationship.

Anyway, great job, keep up the great work!

Author's Response: Thanks for doing that, it means a lot, and I'm glad you're following the plot as well as the smut. Rest assured the truth, whatever it is, will eventually come out and cause a bit of collateral damage.

I don't see how Omega's don't have stricter guidelines for determining culpability! Seriously if this is a mistake (which I'm still thinking it might not be) then they just ruined a friendship and psycologically damaged someone!

I really can't see this story ending well! But good job with this nonetheless, it IS a good read despite being a hard pill to swallow.

Author's Response: Despite the legal system seeming a bit harsh, the Omegas don't just hand out sentences willy nilly; the next chapter will show why they're so sure about what it appears Lexi did. Glad you're enjoying it!

I'm hoping for a happy ending but I'm not sure how one could happen. Loving this story, though. Looking forward to future chapters and how this story progresses.

Author's Response: Thanks!

If at the end there is no twist that shows Lexi here is guilty then I'd be very surprised to see if the two girls are even friends, even capable of speaking to each other.

Author's Response: No matter the outcome, it's probably no spoiler to say the ending is going to be somewhat rough. Thanks for reading!

Finally, I've been waiting for this for ages! Ahhh, I can't wait to see how this is effecting Bridget, and I desperately want to know the alleged crimes. Also, I wonder how many times mistakes like these happen...

Author's Response: Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Guess I'll respond again.

They don't have trials because Aegis is a private organization that is under no obligations beyond what they choose to impose upon themselves as a group, for better or for worse. They don't have trials because they see no reason for them after they have a panel review any and all evidence and then make a decision.

I've used the term "pseudo-dystopia" to describe this universe in the past, I believe. This is one of the reasons why.

I like this story, but it brings up a interesting question. How come there are no trials for these situations?

Author's Response:

Thanks for reviewing! And Ackbar's got your answer above.

Going off your most recent story I'm looking forward to how you treat this one. There've been plenty of stories that push readers towards supporting horrendous punishment using fallacious 'just-world' reasoning; it's about time someone other than the Alphas faced the consequences for their poor decisions.

Assuming, of course, the 'twist' isn't that she was actually guilty all along! That would be way too meta

I can see things turning into something like the Salem witch trials. With betas using omegas to punish alphas they may not like or something by lying about things and possible hurting themselves in order to achieve this. Good stuff

Author's Response:

Definitely an unsettling comparison! Thanks for reading/reviewing.

@Rizcar

I don’t know about Bridget and Alexandra but Corey’s attacks were originally supposed to be given to Jenna. Kayla actually saved Stephanie and Naomi by giving them to Claire in retrospect.

Author's Response:

Good point to bring up. Though not for the same reason, Alexandra was going to go to another enforcer as well until extenuating circumstances put her with Bridget instead.

The system the Omegas are using seem a little messed up.  Their superiors seem to think its a good idea for their enforcers to participate in cases where they have personal stakes.  Claire's brother is assaulted, so she gets to punish the attackers.  Bridget's best friend is involved in an assault, so Bridget punishes her friend.  Conflict of interest?  Relationships destroyed, a chance that punishment might not equal the crime for good or bad.  No chance to defend yourself and face your accusers.  With this kind of system its a wonder why the Alphas tolerate it, and there not being more unrest.  I wonder if Kayla will eventually get involved if it becomes clear that an innocent was punished.  I was hoping the system was fair and equitable for all, but it appears that Alphas may in fact be the oppressed people now.  I'm still little nervous about how this story will go, but its interesting enough to continue.

Author's Response:

Thanks for reviewing. I'd say it's a fair reaction to question aspects of the justice system here, though there is a reason Bridget was allowed to handle her friend that'll be shown in a later chapter. I would suggest it's jumping the gun to say Alphas are oppressed here, but given how wrong this particular case seems to be going, I can see where that thought comes from.
