How on Earth did this stay off my mental radar? Talk about anomalies!

Not a bad opening sequence. Although,, strictly speaking, this is the prequel. As in, a sequel set chronologically earlier than the original story? Which, in this case, would more properly be called a "prelude" or "prologue."

I too struggled over whether to call it a prequel or a sequel. The present day scenes with Ann in 1996 are in the middle of the "Captain Miniature" novel's timeline. But the bulk of it is a flashback occuring over a decadee prior to the 1965 chapter 1 of "Captain Miniature and the Red Moll Conundrum"
