The Bronze Age Catwoman was given a dysfunctional childhood, when DC revamped her origin following the original (and, in hindsight, way over-rated) CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS.

Oh yes, in fact, throughout the 1992 DCAU Batman cartoon series, I noticed that a number of villains' origins involved being victimized in some way themselves first. Eg Clayface, Riddler, Mr Freeze, and even Penguin copping a bad treatment by Veronica Vreeland while on the brink of reform.

Why Selina Kyle? I actually did have Saturn Girl in the back of my mind at some stage during this book's production.
