As I said over at Giantess City, the pacing is perfect -- you're building patiently, and doing a very nice job. This is a very good start indeed, I'm looking forward to seeing where you take it.

I just have to say that you've done a very nice job with this so far, and encourage you to do just what you're doing -- write at your own pace. I'm very much looking forward to the denouement.

So is this just a repost, or are you adding on to it? I vote for the latter, of course, but if just the former, it's nice to see this added to the library.

The Manor by Nom de Plume Rated: R starstarstarstarstar [Reviews - 15]
Summary:

The sequel to "The Glade."  (I highly recommend that you read that story first.  Otherwise, you'll have no idea what the hell's going on and who these people are.)

Cairnbridge holds many mysteries.  In many ways, it is an enchanted land.  Susanna knows this quite well now.  Perhaps the greatest evidence of this is her new friend, Vincent.  He is a young man of very small stature, yet is capable of extraordinary power.  Quite literally, that which other men can only dream of doing, Vincent makes a reality.  And with Susanna's help, he is growing in power.

There are many mysteries yet to be discovered...but for our two protagonists, there is no greater mystery than the growing love that is between them, as well as the challenges that await...

I think Vincent has learned a valuable lesson: Don't start eating the food of a drunk giantess unless you're keeping a very, very close eye on her.

I did want to add to my earlier review -- I am deeply appreciative that you haven't made Rebecca into a cliched evil sister. I think there's every possibility she could be a complicating factor for Susanna and Vincent -- quite a serious one, in fact -- but it's not because Rebecca is hiding out, cackling with glee at the possibility of tormenting the tiny.

Of course, I expected no less of you, but still, it's nice to see you meet my high expectations for you.

Because of that screw-up, I'm done reading! :P

Seriously, I really enjoy this short series, and the way you've made the action flow from the characters, rather than trying to shoehorn them into scenarios. Nothing has happened yet that has made me think, "Oh, well, he's trying to get Vincent swallowed here." You have a handle on your characters, and that makes the story work.

And if I may offer a bit of advice...if you find yourself at a crossroads after chapter seven, ask your characters what they want to do. They probably know. I know a lot of times I've found myself fighting writer's block, it's been because I've been trying to force characters to go in a direction they didn't want to. I can't guarantee anything, of course, but it's worth a shot.

Very glad to see you writing again! There's a thin line between brave and stupid, and Vincent is right on it, isn't he?

Author's Response:

It's good to be writing again!  Vincent is...well, he's learning.  Sometimes ignorance looks a lot like courage!

So far, it's fine, but if I may be so bold, I'd suggest editing your author's note. There's nothing wrong with trying to write realistic characters -- indeed, I applaud the effort -- but there are several active stories right now that feature realistic characters and scenarios. The authors note distracts from the story, which should rise or fall on its own merits, and which so far is good.

Just my $0.02.

Author's Response:

Point taken. Thinking back, I vaguely remember being told that author's notes in general are no-nos, and that the reader's experience should be untampered with at all costs.

Anyway, I'm definitely aware of some of the stories you reference. In fact, your stories in particular (among others) inspired me to write more realistic encounters. I guess I just wanted to remark on the preponderance of fantastical characters/settings (of which I'm certainly guilty), and how I'd like to try my hand at imagining a more life-like shrunken scenario.

Thanks for the review!
