A very well written story and - what I find more important - a really good story. The fetish inserts were probably my least favourite parts of it, seemed unnecessary on more than one occasion. The main characters were amazing though, and their interactions perfect.

I do not like to review the plots of the stories I read or comment them (as they belong to their respective Authors and Authors alone), though I am willing to make an exception here. The ending made me feel quite sad; it seems Rickard truly loved Nalista, maybe more than anyone ever did before him, but Nalista, being a product of a society she was, failed to recognize it and brought him to the verge of insanity (though whether he crossed the threshold remains uncertain). Tragic tale set in a world of full of animosities and strife, but one that makes me miss the characters already.

Author's Response:

Very happy to hear you enjoyed it! It was quite fun to write! I try to approach things from a story angle first, the world being what it is allows me to insert size as being basically just a way of life here. I try to make it a seamless blend but sometimes doesn't work out so well.

Its a tragic thing really. The two of them probably could have been great friends and even more, if they weren't in the world they live in. Their dynamic was fun to write honestly and I'm happy to hear you took some feelings away from it, even if it was sad.

Despite the large number of positive reviews, I did not read your story as chapters were being released. Having noticed its finished status a few days ago, I felt motivated to get acquainted with it as soon as possible - which in turn ended with me binge reading it.

You crafted a truly heartwarming piece of writing, one that deviates strongly from the average of this site. Quality-wise, the story is very good, though I have to point some issues:

  • as mentioned by other reviewers, the characters thoughts are explained all too often, even when they are pretty evident. There are times when characters' actions do not tell the whole story, but in Allie's case her motivations, once clarified, were well-known;
  • the ending, emotional and optimistic as it was, failed to resolve all the story arcs (probably just managing to fully tie up Allie's unfortuate career choice);
  • Brian's (a)sexuality issue: it really feels more like a defense mechanism of a  naturally introvert  preson in face of dreadful circumstances. Brian is shown to never have been an outgoing individual and his mother's betrayal only served to create a deeper feeling of distrust for the world. It is no wonder he does not get aroused, but Allie letting it go seems off, given that it looks to be the case of a mental barrier that needs to be dissolved.
  • the Cathy character - she is a total mystery to me and her actions make little sense. The way she is portrayed feels incomplete, as though we - as readers - were missing something important. At the beginning she seemed like a shallow lass, who got off kinky stuff; the last chapter shows an entirely different person though. Too bad we may never know...

By now you may have realised that my critique has a purpose: I really cannot wait for Book II to see the light of day and that is where the issus above coud be adressed. The tale is by no means finished and I believe it deserves to be told in full. I just hope lo live long enough to read it (so do not follow the Winds of Winter path).
Sincerely, C

Author's Response:

Thank you for the review! I'm really glad that you decided to read this story. For sure, binging stuff can be way more fun than reading it as each chapter comes out. I really appreciate the criticism!

-Looking back, I totally see the point about too many thought explanations. I'll keep this in mind for future stories!

-I would like to push back on this point a little. It's important to distinguish story arcs and character arcs. While the ending only resolved the one story arc, my focus was on Allison and Brian's character arcs. Obviously, this won't mean much if you were hoping more for story arc conclusions, but I at least wanted to explain my thought process.

-I definitely didn't expect people to push back on Brian's sexuality so much. I do think we have to be careful when saying that his asexuality is tied to his trauma, as if it's something that Allison needs to "fix." That's something that happens all too often with asexual characters in fiction (Dexter Morgan comes to mind), and it can be pretty damaging to actual asexuals. With that being said, I understand how it makes sense in Brian's context. In regards to that, I'll just say this- Allison never explicitly accepted Brian's asexuality, only that they would not be able to have a traditionally sexual relationship. I forgot to say this in my response to other reviews, but it was definitely intentional!

-I see your (and others) point about Cathy. If I do a continuation, I'll be sure to explain Cathy's actions better!

Overall, I really appreciate the feedback! There's certainly a lot of story left that could be told. If I may distinguish myself from GRRM a bit in regards to future stories, I would like to make clear that a follow up story is in no way guaranteed. I'm not going to close the door on the possibility, obviously, but as of now I'm not planning on it. Life is about to start up again for me pretty soon, so at least for the time being I need to step away. Regardless, I'm really happy that you enjoyed this story enough to want a sequel!! Thanks again for reading, and the detailed review!

2/2 update: Does anyone here do giantess art commissions? Would be interested in some art of my characters but I’m not exactly the best artist.

3/1 update: I got rid of the experimental chapter (J)  - I hope everyone enjoys the new and improved Chapter 25! It's called "The Bargain". And I changed back the other Chad/Julie interaction to what it was.

A story that deserves a review, but mine will probably be less enthusiastic than the ones dominating the review board.

Frankly speaking, it is an easy read, entertaining at times, but deeply flawed. There are three major issues I see:

1. The narrative - we (as readers) are continuously being told  about characters' virtues, while said virtues are seldom (if at all) shown. It bugged me slightly at the beginning, but became more of an issue as new chapters were being released. I hoped the problem would subside, but it never did. It is most evident in Stephanie (and Amy, to slightly lesser extent): the person we actually meet is oversensitive, bitchy, short-sighted and foolish. Nowhere near the idealised persona she is described to be. In Amy's case, her supposed smarts are never showcased and her attitude of 'everything will be ok, trust Stephanie' displays the lack of imagination we do not associate with smart people.

2. The characters - this one may be especially subjective, but they are mostly an unlikeable bunch. Chad and Sophie are simple jerks depicted as villains of the story. Both Roger and Brian are slaves to their own fantasies; spineless, weak-willed individuals whose (supposed) smarts are never evident. Julie used to be my favourite, but her actions spoke aginst her. While Sophie is meant to be a villain, the true villains I see are Stephanie and Xue: as opposed to simply being a product of poor upbringing, their disregard for human life and consequences of their actions is truly troubling.

The redeeming factor comes (unexpectedly) in form of Veronica and Maria. Their spontaneous relashionship feels true and unforced - as it should.

3. The sheer number of cliches in one story.

I hope you do not take my criticism as something done out of spite; I just have to address the problems I see. I rate few stories, but some deserve to be reviewed - and I belive you have room for improvement.

Author's Response:

Thank you for your perspective and insights.
It's clear you put a lot of thought into your analysis.

Interesting take on my story.

I probably should have taken more opportunities to really showcase the virtues of some of my characters.
I got so excited writing about the tiny/giantess playtime that maybe I could have done more to show off certain traits of characters: particularly Amy's smarts - but I consider her true virtues to be of kindness, patience, and loyalty - I think I've demonstrated those traits of Amy consistently in the story.
With that said, maybe I should have created a situation where Amy calls out Stephanie for going too far - but I was into the whole "torture the jerks" mantra that honestly I didn't want anyone to interfere except the occasional protest from Brian.
But maybe giving Amy blind loyalty of Stephanie was a mistake?

The thing I gather though is that you view Sophie and Chad with more sympathy than I do.

Given Sophie's entitled personality and racism - she only cares about herself and no one else, I still would say that Sophie is more villanous than Stephanie or Xue.
Yes, Stephanie is immature and she lets her emotions get the best of her - but her heart is in the right place when it comes to her friends. Her methods are a little extreme - yes.
Xue is more callous and perhaps too playful but she never does anything that would likely cause a tiny to die - to be tortured, yes..but not death. Same with Stephanie.

The only two main characters who really went through the ringer are Sophie and Chad - but our views on these two characters appear to be different.

Brian's brilliance has largely been showcased from the fact that he invented the shrinking machine. He's not the most skilled when it comes to people though. He's also really into Amy.
And while I don't think I explicitly stated it, Roger figured out how to use the shrinking machine without any instruction.

I have considered rewriting the chapter where Julie used Chad as a dildo.. wanted to create a certain situation for Chad but perhaps making Julie be the one to do it wasn't the best idea.
Stephanie or Xue might have been a better fit for that. I'm just not sure how I would make that fit.

Glad to hear that you like Veronica and Maria's relationship though!  I had the most fun writing about their relationship in particular and I think you explain why that was the case for me.

Hi,

I would like to begin with stating I truly appreciate your story. The pacing seems right and the plot/character development - believable, given the story's setting. The only troubling part is the statement accompanying the recent update...

It is impossible to satiate everyone's desires and trying to accomplish such a goal may very well result in the story's quality taking a hit. Surely, the Community is allowed to share views, but the story itself belongs inherently to its Author. Please, do not include content within your stories that would have never gotten included if not for external voices. - and especially should it negatively impact coherence of storyline and character development.

Best wishes,

C

Hi,

I have been meaning to leave a review for some time, but the moment never seemed right. After nine very solid chapters I feel your story is still quite underappreciated, so a review is in order.

As a fan of fantasy genre, I am in love with the setting and the very concept of your tale. The worldbuilding is done well, though this new, facinating world could have been explored to a better degree - for example by showing the readers its customs, traditions, history and geography throuh the eyes of common people. For now, as vast as it is supposed to be, it seems a bit small. An advice: explore secondary and tertiary characters, they create a more immersive background for the story.

The narrative is also done very well, though not perfect yet. I really like the use of POV sections as well as the differences between the respective narratives of your characters (Aurora's childish enthusiasm, Ophelia's maturity and internal strength coupled with self-doubt, etc.).

There is one more thing I would like to see improved: a problem on the intersection of narrative and pacing. What I mean is, to many things are told and to few shown. For example: the characters struggles are told to be long and tedious but they fail to impose the same feelings to the readers.

For now, a very solid story and an obvious 10/10. But with potential to become an all time great.

Summary:

They call them Valkyries, the rare women who were exposed to an experimental gene therapy which gave them advanced physiques and the curious ability to shrink others with a thought. Miraculously the shrinking process heals injuries and disease, and seeing a Valkyrie for healing via shrinking has become a common part of life.

Carmen was a terrifying bully, making Samantha and Kyle's lives hell all through high school. After one final act of revenge, costing her a prestigious scholarship, the two forgot about their old tormentor, moving on and finding their own success in life... that is until they find themselves needing the healing touch of a Valkyrie, and find themselves at the mercy of their old enemy... Is she still carrying a grudge? Oh yeah.

A shrinking story about a tiny couple at the mercy of their old bully, this one will be darker and more serious than my other works, but I think my usual readers will still be happy with it.

Hi,

it seems I am the first one to leave a review for this story; I definitely have not expected it to be the case, considering how prolific and popular author you have become in such  a short time...

The more serious tone of this one is immediately noticable. I have read almost all of your previous works (one exception, if I recall) and a deviation from the light-hearted and goofy installments is actually quite welcome. Do not get me wrong, they are both great and gratly entertaining stories in their own way (and deserve probably 10/10 rating by the standards of this site), but some themes became a bit repetitive, so a change is quite refreshing. Plot-wise it also opens new possibilities, where the readers are presented with difficult and emotional real life problems the protagonists will have to face with more mature mindsets. Anyway, I think you are off to a very solid start and I can only encourage you to treat the further chapters with care as the setting is very promising.

C

Author's Response: I'm glad the more serious tone is sticking, this is going to be a fairly dark one in that everyone here has a lot of stuff they need to work through. I'm trying to branch out a bit, so we'll see how I do with this kind of thing, I'm pretty excited so far!

Reviewer: Curvograph Signed starstarstarstarstar

A surprisingly wholesome experience, considering Carmen's desire for taking revenge on Kyle and Sam. You cannot stay truly mad when you are essentially a superhuman who is already set for life, I guess. Also, an indicator of her actual feelings towards the two.

Great job, always a pleasure to read a chapter of yours. Cheers!

Author's Response:

They're in something of a honeymoon phase of their interaction, Carmen has just saved their lives and they feel like they can trust her a bit. She still carries a bit of a grudge but it's softened and yeah her real feelings for the two are on display. We've got some bumpy road before the end but I think it'll make people happy.
